History

Sunny was born in Brooklyn, New York to Lawrence and Valeria Truscott, both professors at Hudson University. Her mother immigrated to America from Puerto Rico when she was in her 20's and as first generation Americans, Sunny and her brother were always pushed to succeed. It was in school that Sunny discovered her knack for science and problem solving. Her mother, having noticed her daughter's talents, pushed her toward a career in medicine but Sunny had other interests, primarily law enforcement. It would be an interest that would follow her for most of her young life.

After high school Sunny went to Columbia University were she was premed. Freshman year she was introduced to Daniel Bishop through a mutual friend. The two immediately connected and started to date. Near the end of her junior year Sunny discovered that she was pregnant and that Daniel was the father. Rather than support her like she thought he would, Daniel urged her to have an abortion. Appalled by his indifference, Sunny broke it off with Daniel and finally told her parents about the pregnancy. They agreed to help her raise the child as long as she didn't drop out of school.

On January 17th her daughter Cassidy was born. With her parents help, Sunny graduated from Columbia with the rest of her class. Having Cassidy and breaking up with Daniel made Sunny reconsider what it was she wanted to do with her life. She decided that against becoming a doctor and declined her acceptance to medical school and instead enrolled in the police academy. It would be a decision that would become a source on contention between her and her mother. After an especially heated conversation between the two, Sunny moved out of her parents home and refused all financial help.

Quickly making her mark as a beat cop, Sunny made detective at 28 and with her background in medicine it wasn't long before the NYPD offered her a position with CSU. Since then her and her mother have reconciled thought Valeria still disaproves of Sunny's profession.

Personality

Sunny has a flair for the dramatic. She inherited her mother's lively spirit a trait that manifest itself in an outgoing personality and a tendency to be very wordy but on the other side of the coin is her father's quiet intensity. It's a dichotomy that she uses on a day to day basis to deal with her line of work. Out in the field she's the first to crack a joke but she knows when to get serious.

Deciding against medical school was just the first step toward Sunny's independence. She won't let anyone tell her what she can and cannot do. As a result she can come off as pushy and stubborn. Sunny makes friends easily but only opens herself up to a select few. She is closest to her family, especially her younger brother Daryl who has always looked up to his big sister.

Since Daniel she has not dated much, most men turn and run when they find out she has a kid but she doesn't let that turn her off of the dating scene.
